Asian/African/Egyptian/Europeon preference on GW2/GW1
Which medieval cultural theme/arts do you prefer for GW2?
Which medieval cultural theme/arts did you prefer in GW1 (Factions=Asian, Prophicies=Europeon, Nightfall=African)
For me, I truly enjoyed the Asian medieval role playing concepts. Face it, you have to admit that Factions' profession and landscapes themes were way cooler than Prophicies' theme, even though many people preferred Prophicies (only because it was longer and had a far diverse landscapes)
I hope GW2 will continue to have the medieval Asian themes, and hope the Assassin class will also make a comeback with the Asian theme on their side.
I would not mind having the option to choose the medieval Asian themed Assassin, European themed Assassin, or African themed Assassin. IMO, I think this would be an awesome feature to have. I would remove the Charr, Asuran, and Norn races.... only keep the Human professions and make them diverse with the ethnicity difference.
For example:
Asian Assassins would be superior in terms speed and abilities to wall climb, jump, flip, etc. The typical aerobic Asian Assassin.
European Assassins would have the upper hands of having more defense.
African Assassins would wear cloaks and hoods, who has the superior skills in tracking bounties or hunters, something like that...?
What do you guys think?
edit:
uh... I apologize if you think I am racist just because I could not think of a good special inherent attribute for an European Assassin. They might be good at other professions such as Warrior/Knight with shields blocks or something. IDK about this field, let your own imagination decide or the creators of GW2 decide. w/e

They should stop including different cultures and just make everyone white and stick with it. Otherwise we're going to get to a stage where we have to make black characters again and everyone will quit.
Asian themed games are just cest pools of weeaboo and wapanese fandom and the breeding grounds for cleverly named xXxInarutardIxXx assassin clones.
Remember when Guildwars was good?
And while we're on the topic, Nightfall was a mix of Middle Eastern and African themed.
And Proph was somewhat a mix also, containing a wide range of landscape from Ascalon, the Shiverpeaks, Maguuma, the Desert, and the Fire Islands course.
Basically what I'm reading is you want to make discrimination real in gw, because only asian sins would be able to do all the cool stuff, so groups and guilds could say Recruiting ASIAN SINS ONLY.
I think diversity is kind of the nice thing about GW1; the landscapes, influence, and culture are so widespread you get enough of everything to not be bored of one thing.
That being said, I think I liked the African/Middle Eastern culture of Nightfall. In a lot of genres, but especially fantasy, you have a huge amount of European influence. African and Middle Eastern are always sort of branded as the enemy, and have no development to them other than as the evil barbarians from the wastelands in (that direction). And on that note in the gaming Genre, a lot of games seem to have a very strong Asian influence.
In GW2 I hope they keep what they established in the other games. Kryta has become the home for all the refugees from all the cultures and influence, it would be a shame to ruin such an interesting mix by sticking with just one.
How ignorant can you type of people be? Just because I like Asian Assassins, you automatically assume that I am a Naruto fan? Gosh, FYI, I never even watched one episode of Naruto, I am not even an animate fan.
I just had another thought.
Maybe, African/Egyptian themed Warriors/Barbarians could have the ability to withstand massive damage, and ability to produce massive damage.
European would probably be more superior in the profession known as chemist, maybe?

Ah, so we do get to the heart of the matter, you have certain racial attitudes and presumtions of peoples of certain races. You make races have an effect in a game and you're confirming every stereotype out there.

I most definately agree with Operative on keeping up the diversity. I loved some of the concept art for Utopia, the idea of getting to see South American (native) flavoured people would have been exciting.
I suppose this is one thing that I don't like about GW2. I worry they will sacrifice the ethnic diversity of the human race just so the people can play elves and goblins. Even if they technically aren't elves and goblins.
I don't agree with giving races or "nations" special powers. So many people play the min max game that it becomes inefficient to play class x when playing race x. It becomes impossible to play in a team as a certain combo simply because it isn't the max. As GW stands currently you can play many optimal combos, but when optimal combos (skills) are restricted to the one "race" or "ethnicity" it helps to ruin the diversity of the game.

Hi there, I totally remember when gw was good. It was after the release of factions. I only bought prophicies when it first came out because it was from the creators of diablo. I quitted gw prophicies after day one and resumed after the release of factions which lead me to buy nightfall.

Hi, I would have really loved a native american profession and landslscape also. I agree with diverse ethnic races and diverse lands.
However I dont agree with not giving certain ethnic tribe a certain superior power. That is what bings the richness of each culture, it is also exciting to be albe to go realistically choosing which profession to play knowing you have that special ability.
If you make the game all European, it would be boring. If you dont like to play African or Asian characters, nobody is forcing you to. The option is there for people who do.

Special ability and inherent power are two seperate thing. Your initial post spoke of inherent abilities - let me give and example of where I see the difference.
Say in GW2 races had "special powers" ie just like a set of skills. These skills are only and ADDITION to their professional skills, and you get them no matter what profession you are.
Example 1: Norn in GW2 get the Norn skills from GW1. They can use things like "Finish Him" and "I am the strongest", and while they are advantageous as a certain profession it is possible to use them on many, and have "optimal profession combos" stretching across all races, without them.
Now let's look at giving them an inherent damage bonus because, well they are big.
Example 2: Norn do +50 damage in melee. All of the sudden it becomes stupid to take a warrior other than a norn warrior. And it becomes stupid to be any other profession other than warrior if you are a norn. Monks aren't going to get that bonus.
I don't mind Example 1. However I do not agree with Example 2, and here is why - no one will play warrior unless they are norn. There will be no norn casters. Professions, rather than being split (somewhat evenly among the races/ethnic groups) suddenly end up being solely one race or another. Ultimately under such a system race decides profession and I don't agree with this. But then GW spoilt me. I enjoyed the "we are all humans", "we aren't the top of the food chain", "you can be any profession or any combo of professions", I want GW to keep this alive. It is something not often found in RPGs.

... Thats why you dont only give African themed warriors an inherent ability, you also give it the native American warrior also (a different one), therefor people can choose which ever one is suitable to their playstyle.
Now the Norn, Charr. Asuran races look ridiculious and boring to me........

...There's like two posts that don't involve flaming with actual discussion in this thread...?
I wouldn't do the whole ethnicity thing...
But I main an assassin.
And I hate naruto.
Go Stereotype people somewhere else.
Before this turns into a race war and gets locked, how does say WoW deal with classes and profession. How do they keep, as mentioned before, the norn as being the only class being able to be a warrior because the others classes would not do it as well?
